Pentax-A SMC 24mm f/2.8
Summary
The SMC Pentax-A 24mm f/2.8 is a compact, manual-focus wide-angle prime introduced in 1984 and produced until 1989, designed for full-frame K-mount film cameras. It was the final evolution of Pentax’s 24mm f/2.8 lineage, succeeding the K-series version and retaining the same 9-element - 8-group optical formula, but adding the all-important “A” setting on the aperture ring for full Program and Shutter-Priority automation on compatible bodies. Physically, it’s a lightweight and travel-friendly lens, weighing just 205g and measuring 63 × 42mm. It uses a 52mm filter thread, stops down to f/22, and focuses as close as 25cm, delivering a 0.12× magnification. The lens lacks internal focusing or weather sealing, but includes a manual aperture ring, a PH-S52 clip-on hood, and was typically sold with the HA-90 hard case. The 5-blade diaphragm is a bit unusual for a prime of this class, and contributes to its distinctive bokeh.
