Service Manual: Disassembly/Re-assembly
Screws: Angenieux
Instructional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIf0Wf9-VRo
Full CLA: 12-15 hrs.
early version had bad batch in production. zoom cam has flaws in manufacturing process that make image shift constantly throughout zoom.
The EZ lenses are notoriously hard to get/keep optically clean due to the several follower channels (ie, contamination entry points). It's highly recommended, when re-assembling, to use the according tap (M1.7 for follower screws) to clean out the dry and flaky white glue that Angénieux uses.
Re-collimate: 1-3 hrs.
Re-align optics: 1-3 hrs.
for the long end, remove FER and focus scale. several sets of screws located underneath. long ones and short ones. one set adjusts centering one adjust field, other length set helps hold optics in place. some trial and error is needed since all screws affect image simultaneously.
centering wide end, set screws found in pass through holes in PL mount.
CAUTION!!!! set screws push on doublet # 17/18 which is not protected in a housing. can chip and break doublet!!!!!!
Image shift in zoom: 14-15 hrs.
Zoom section has MANY followers that are color coded for the different ODs. if image shift is present, swapping and changing followers will be necessary. This is time consuming.
Hazy element in rear optical block: 2 hrs.
if haze is located in front most section of optical block, it may clean off. quote investigation first!
Z+I only: 12-15 (Full CLA required to access zoom)
To fully access Z+I, the focus assembly/helical/optics needs to be removed first; Z+I cannot be accessed from the rear. Additionally, the white powdery glue they use on their follower screws almost always flakes off into the optics, necessitating the need to remove and clean the zoom optics, thus now practically becoming a full CLA.
Convert IRO: 1 hr.
See Service Manual above!
Internal Iris mech.: 12-15 hrs.
to access internal iris mechanic/ring, entire lens must come apart. focus and zoom cams but be removed to access and remove internal iris control ring. many, MANY cam followers in focus, zoom and iris. proceed with caution!
