===== Whitepoint Nikon AI-s 180mm T2.9 ===== (INSERT SINGLE HERO IMAGE HERE - other images below in media section) ==== Summary ==== Nikon Nikkor lenses perform flawlessly shooting directly towards light. They are sharp, but with less micro contrast than the Leica R lens, for example. Highlights have a beautiful slight glow. In 1977 Nikon introduced a new system for coupling the lens to the camera’s exposure system. This new coupling system was called Automatic maximum aperture indexing or AI for short. The AI-S lens was created in 1982 when the aperture mechanism of the AI lens was enhanced to feature automatic aperture control. The big difference between AI and AI-S is that the relationship between how much the camera moves the little lever that closes the aperture and how far the aperture closes is now standardized. ==== Tech Specs ==== | Manufacturer |Whitepoint| | Series |Nikon| | Model |AI-s| | Focal Length |180mm| | Max Aperture |T2.9| | Min Aperture |T32| | Format |-| | Image Circle |⌀| | Minimum Focus |5ft 11in| | Focus Rotation |280-300°| | Iris Blades |-| | Optical Design |-| | Squeeze |-| | Front Diameter |95mm| | Filter Thread |-| | Focus/Zoom Rod |-| | Native Mount |PL, LPL, EF| | Data Protocol |-| | Length |-| | Weight |-| | Body Telescope |-| | Body Material |-| | Focus Drive |-| | Iris Drive |-| | Zoom Drive |-| ==== History ==== Country of Origin: - \\ Release Date: - \\ Launch Price: - \\ Design Revisions:\\ ==== Service ==== Service Manual: (Insert link to manual here) \\ \\ Full CLA: **#hrs.**\\ **In addition to a very small and weak delrin cam follower (and sometimes a much too stiff spring), the follower block is adjustable, so if the block isn't sufficiently secured, it can shift and cause significant collimation variances. Focus can also feel like poo due to the cam not riding on a bearing similar to Cooke or TLS, but instead uses any combination of delrin and Teflon washers (two Teflon; one Teflon and one delrin; two Teflon and one delrin, etc). Furthermore, most of the torx hardware used in these lenses are cheap quality. Infinity overtravel seems to be all over the place, sometimes hard stopping on the mark, sometimes a little past the mark, sometimes quite a lot past the mark.**\\ \\ Remove the witness ring via four torx screws. Remove the focus hard stop so that the focus scale can slip past. Remove the focus scale via heat (it's held on by glue). You can now adjust the cam follower block(s). Don't forget to reinstall the hard stop so that the follower doesn't shoot out. With the hard stop installed, you can usually access both follower block screws, one at the infinity end, the other at close focus end.\\ **__The 15mm focus scale and witness ring must come off toward the rear of the lens after first removing the mount, iris witness ring, iris ring, and focus gear.__**\\ ==== Notes ==== ==== Media ====
